Using a Zip Disk or other removable media for Back-up is a fine idea where there isn't much data and someone can take it off-site in case the building burns down. They were desgned for this use and have done it well for years! The danger is that they are susceptible to magnetic fields such as from x-ray machines and audio speakers in cars, etc, which can damage data or even the zip disk itself. If certain native "housekeeping" information is erased or damaged, the disk may be worthless!
Make sure that you have a copy of the data on your hard drive, though. The whole idea behind backup is having more than one copy!
