Using Optical Disks such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW is another removable media option for Back-up. They are great where there is around 500MB to 4.7GB of data. Someone can take it off-site in case the building burns down. CD-R and DVD+R are burn-once while CD-RW and DVD+RW can be erased and rewritten.
One big advantage is that they are immune to magnetic fields such as from x-ray machines and audio speakers in cars, etc. Once concern is that they can be scratched so you ghave to be nice to them! Another caveat is DVDs have a +R and +RW format for data or movies while the -R and -RW format is ONLY for movies and NOT data. Make sure you get the data-capable version drive and media.
Make sure that you have a copy of the data on your hard drive, though. The whole idea behind backup is having more than one copy!
